Individuals not identified to species may be referred to as Polypodium virginianum complex. HABITAT: Moist rocks at low to high elevations, especially in ravines, on north-facing outcrops, and in other moist sites.
COMMENTS: NL (Newfoundland) west to e. ON, south to n. GA and n. AL; nearly restricted to the Appalachian Mountains. Its chromosome complement can be symbolized as AA. It is one parent of P. virginianum.
