NCBG Location:
This two foot, densely mounding, diminutive cultivar of one of our finest native aster species, Symphyotrichum oblongifolium 'October Skies'™, produces a sea of sky blue flowers with bright yellow centers in the fall. Its attractive leaves have an aromatic, minty fragrance when crushed and its flowers are attractive to many insects including butterflies and bees. Because of its low-growing habit 'October Skies'™ is unique among asters and makes for an excellent addition to the front of the fall border garden. In addition this plant is very drought tolerant once established.
